Dans cette peinture de Gaspard de Gouges au centre du tableau trône une personne de couleur noire avec une coupe de cheveux afro et un bandeau sur un œil. Le modèle est Naomi Campbell posant pour un photographe de mode. A sa gauche, se tient un homme torse nu portant un vêtement de sport et sur la tête, une taie d'oreiller. Au carnaval de Rio en discutant avec des amis brésiliens, j'ai appris qu'avant que le carnaval devienne une industrie les jeunes des favelas se rendaient méconnaissables en utilisant une vieille taie d'oreiller. Evidemment cette cagoule improvisée fait aussi référence au Ku-Klux -Klan. En 2005 le sud des Etats-unis, berceau de l'esclavage et de la ségrégation, était touché par l'ouragan Katrina, et cet événement m'a marqué. J'ai donc mélangé le racisme, l'icône noir, le festival tropical et la violence contenue. Sur la table bleue au premier plan un ananas géant cache l'entrejambe du personnage cagoulé, un couteau est planté sur la table. Une menace plane, rehaussée par la main rouge difforme du troisième personnage, un colosse tatoué, de dos, qui crée un arrière plan pour le personnage central.

At the carnival in Rio while chatting with Brazilian friends, I learned that before carnival became an industry, young people from the favelas made themselves unrecognizable by using an old pillowcase. Obviously this improvised hood also refers to the Ku-Klux -Klan. In 2005 the southern United States, the cradle of slavery and segregation, was hit by Hurricane Katrina. So I mixed racism, black icon, tropical festival and contained violence. On the blue table in the foreground a giant pineapple hides the crotch of the hooded character, a knife is planted on the table. A threat hovers, enhanced by the deformed red hand of the third character, a tattooed colossus, from behind, which creates a background for the central character.

Beim Karneval in Rio erfuhr ich beim Plaudern mit brasilianischen Freunden, dass junge Leute aus den Favelas sich mit einem alten Kissenbezug unkenntlich machten, bevor der Karneval zur Industrie wurde. Offensichtlich bezieht sich diese improvisierte Haube auch auf den Ku-Klux-Klan. 2005 wurde der Süden der Vereinigten Staaten, die Wiege der Sklaverei und Segregation, vom Hurrikan Katrina heimgesucht. Also habe ich Rassismus, schwarze Ikone, tropisches Festival gemischt und Gewalt eingedämmt. Auf dem blauen Tisch im Vordergrund verbirgt eine riesige Ananas den Schritt der Kapuzenfigur, auf dem Tisch ist ein Messer gepflanzt. Eine drohende Bedrohung, verstärkt durch die deformierte rote Hand des dritten Charakters, eines tätowierten Kolosses, von hinten, der einen Hintergrund für den zentralen Charakter schafft.
